Welcome to the Homepage of the German Embassy in Ethiopia

Contemporary Issues

The Embassy has stopped legalisations of Ethiopian certificates on 31 March 2014.  Certificates which are presented to the Embassy from 1 April 2014 can no longer be legalised.

However, by means of legal and administrative cooperation, the Embassy can assist German authorities and courts by having certificates checked for the veracity of the facts certified and thus give German authorities support in their decision making Whether a verification is required or not is solely determined by the German authority or court where the certificate is to be used as evidence. Private individuals can not request verification of certificates.

Further information on verifications of documents can be found in our information sheet.

6 April - International Day of Sports for Development and Peace

A football tournament took place on 6 April in the Addis Ababa Stadium on the occasion of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace. The International School Addis Ababa organized a student’s parade paying tribute to this event. The event was organized by the Ethiopian Football Federation in cooperation with the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB). The DOSB made use of its global network of sport experts to celebrate the event in six countries by organizing various sport events. The work of the sports experts is completely financed through cultural funds of the German Federal Foreign Office.  Joachim Fickert, who acts as a sports adviser to the Ethiopian Football Federation for a two years’ period, has 30 years of experience working in Africa and has already coached several national teams. He enthusiastically underligned the significance of the International Day of Sports: “ When I see former football players today conserving friendships and supporting each other independently of their different religious, ethnic or geopolitical backgrounds this day initiated by the United Nations gains even more importance in my eyes”.
