Africa as a partner – Cooperation with the African Union (AU)

The AU is at the fore of an emergent institutional architecture that represents Africa externally as a partner in our globalised world. Africa wants to be a partner, not a recipient of aid. We need Africa as a competent partner to jointly address global challenges.

There has always been a special partnership with the EuropeanUnion and Germany, which was confirmed most recently at the Third Africa-EU Summit in Tripoli (30 November 2010).

The overarching goal of German cooperation with the AU is, hence, to strengthen the AU.

African Security Conference in Ethiopia

Germany's Foreign Office supports the first African Security Conference. On April 14 and 15, heads of state and government, experts and academics met on the shores of Lake Tana to discuss challenges and opportunities of African security policy.
