On May 24th 2016 Ambassador Schmidt invited outgoing and returning Ethiopian DAAD-scholars of the years 2015/6 to the residence to congratulate them on being selected as scholarship recipients. Almost 50 scholars will start their studies in the next weeks and months in Germany. Among the most popular degree programmes are “Public Policy and Governance” financed by the German Federal Foreign Office and “Programme Development-related Postgraduate Courses” financed by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. Other guests included prospective PhD scholarship holders and scholarship holders of the DAAD and Ethiopian government co-financed Home-Grown PhD Programme.
Altogether 667 persons participated in the German-Ethiopian University exchange in 2014, 492 of them being Ethiopians. Ethiopia thus ranks third in DAAD Programmes Sub-Sahara Africa.
Ambassador Schmidt and the DAAD-Country Director, Dr. Gerald Heusing, congratulated all participants on obtaining their scholarships. The Ambassador emphasized that a DAAD scholarship is the beginning of a life-long relation with DAAD and as a symbol of this long-lasting relationship with Germany he handed over a DAAD Certificate to each scholar.Enlarge image
